Water-based coatings can be used for interior wall painting. Low-carbon and eco-friendly water-based paint allows quick use after construction and is deeply favored by consumers. In addition, antiviral water-based paint is also a good choice for wall coatings. However, due to the large number of manufacturers and uneven product quality, well-known brands and professional construction teams are necessary to ensure satisfactory results. The following describes the construction requirements for antiviral water-based paint:
1、Temperature requirement: indoor temperature above 8°C
- Ventilation areas such as doors and windows should be tightly closed during construction.
- It is recommended to measure the indoor temperature when applying water-based coatings in winter. The temperature should not be lower than 8°C during construction and within 24 hours after completion.
2、Humidity requirement: indoor humidity below 80%
- When applying topcoat in a heated room, the floor should be fully sprinkled with water and mopped to reduce dust, adjust the dry indoor humidity in winter, and prevent orange peel or cracking on the water-based wood paint film caused by excessively fast drying.
- For wooden heating hoods, two coats of water-based sealer primer should be applied to the back of the panels to effectively prevent deformation.
3、 Specific measures
- Adopt heating and dehumidification measures. For example, use 1000–2000W or 2000–3000W lamps (small sun heaters, bath heaters, infrared baking lamps), heaters or warm air conditioners to raise the indoor temperature and speed up paint film drying. Dehumidifiers can be used if available. In northern areas where humidity is below 30%, sprinkle water on the floor or place a basin of warm water indoors.
- Apply thin coats. Avoid thick single-layer coating in winter, as thicker films dry slower and may cause minor defects.
- Control construction time. Generally, temperature and humidity are less favorable before 10 a.m. and after 10 p.m. Construction should be avoided before 10 a.m. and after 4 p.m. Maintain indoor thermal insulation and avoid opening doors and windows, as convection of outdoor moisture and cold air may affect the coating.
- Pay attention to wooden parts near the exterior. Doors and windows are close to the outdoors and easily affected by low temperature and high humidity outside, making the paint film more prone to problems. Construction in these areas must follow the above three points. If cracking occurs around doors, windows or ceilings due to poor sealing, reapply one coat after the existing film is fully dry. At dusk, protect the paint film on window casings with film to prevent water from soaking the coating.
