I. New Acute Hospital at Kai Tak (commonly known as Kai Tak Hospital, under construction)
Official Name: New Acute Hospital at Kai Tak; under the Kowloon Central Cluster of the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong, serving as the relocated and upgraded campus of Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
Location: Kai Tak Development Area, Kowloon; adjacent to MTR Kai Tak Station (Tuen Ma Line), accessible by multiple bus and public light bus routes.
Construction Scale and Core Facilities
One of the largest acute hospitals in Hong Kong; planned with 2,400 in-patient and day beds and 37 operating theatres. Specialist outpatient consultation rooms will be increased from 133 to 235, representing a 77% rise.
The project is divided into two sites:
Site A (Acute Main Building, Administration Building, Teaching and Training Block);
Site B (Oncology Block + Specialist Outpatient Block, topped out in 2024, with civil engineering completed in the second quarter of 2025).
A one-stop oncology center, community health center, large-scale diagnostic imaging area, and rehabilitation floors are centrally located to minimize inter-floor travel for patients.
Opening Plan: Services will be relocated in phases starting from the first quarter of 2026 (specialist outpatient and community health center to open first). It will take over core services from the original Queen Elizabeth Hospital, including 24-hour accident and emergency, trauma center, and inpatient surgery. The original Queen Elizabeth Hospital will retain a day medical center.
Smart and Design Highlights: Contact-free registration and waiting via HA Go app; sky lobby and dedicated zone elevators for passenger flow separation; extensive greenery and full barrier-free design; green building standards.
